Workneh visited Mogadishu for high-level consultations with the Somali government, aimed at easing tensions between Somalia and its Horn of Africa rival, Ethiopia.
In his remarks, Workneh emphasised Somalia's crucial role in ensuring regional stability.
"Somalia is not only a founding member of IGAD but also a critical partner in our shared mission to promote peace, stability, and development in the Horn of Africa. We stand with Somalia as it navigates its path towards sustainable peace and prosperity, and we will continue to support the government's efforts to build a resilient nation," he said.
The meeting also explored ways to enhance cooperation on cross-border initiatives that contribute to the broader goal of regional integration.
President Hassan reaffirmed Somalia's dedication to strengthening ties with IGAD to promote the development of the region. The two sides signed an agreement to further strengthen their relationship.
"A key aspect of the agreement is the establishment of a Regional Centre of Excellence in Blue Economy, marking a significant milestone for both Somalia and the region," IGAD announced.
